The 2022 season was magical for Aaron Judge. 62 homers. 131 runs batted in. American League MVP.
All of these stats are unbelievable. He put together one of the best seasons that we've ever seen. Even more importantly, he did all of this in a walk year.
It proved perfectly worth it, as he inked one of the largest contracts in baseball history.
Not only did he sign a massive contract, he also was given one of the most prestigious honors in baseball, and was named the 16th captain of the New York Yankees.
Aaron has gotten himself into a position that not many other players are in not just in baseball, but in all of sports.
He is an icon, and has an entire city in love with him. The biggest question now - can he do what he just did in 2022 again to start his big contract in 2023?
The simple answer - no. Putting up such a phenomenal season is so hard to repeat. But with rule changes on the way, he could definitely put up some impressive numbers.
The shift will be the biggest of all. In 2022, Aaron Judge was only shifted on 32.8% of his batted balls, but his wOBA dropped 78 points according to pitcherlist.com.
With the shift being eliminated, he is going to have opportunities to rack up more hits, and more opportunities for runs batted in.
Judge is also headed into this season with a different mentality as a leader. Judge is ready to lead the Yankees to a World Series for the first time since 2009, and that will be more motivation for him to play at an extremely high level.
It's exciting to see what Judge is going to do this year, and it all starts tomorrow as he gets his first appearance in Spring Training for the Yankees.
